Unified Communications Applications & VMware

Isn't it nice now that all the Cisco Unified Communications applications officially support virtualised installation on ESXi running on a Cisco UCS series server? However there's a couple of tweaks that need to be done to get the best performance out of these virtualised installs, fortunately Cisco provide instructions for both:

  1. Disable Large Receive Offload (LRO)
  2. Ensure the latest VMware tools are running
Without tweak 1 you can get poor network throughput on the virtual install, which can be a right pain for backups!

UPDATE: With the migration to Red Hed Enterprise Linux 5.0 in CUCM 8.6, disabling LRO is no longer required.
